EL SAPO, Cuban Social Club is a hip, festive, forward-thinking Cuban restaurant, and the first of its kind in the D.C. metro area. It’s been a long dream of Chef Raynold Mendizabal to represent and promote his culture through his craft.
Bright,open, and brimming with energy, EL SAPO’s whole storefront lifts to let the breeze in. Fresh mojitos, upbeat music and bold island food really do require “no filter.” Our menu is rooted in tradition and unmistakably Cuban; full of intense flavors, colors and aromas. About half of the dishes are what Mendizabal ate at home or on the streets of La Habana, while the other half tell the story of his journey as a cook.
If the heart of EL SAPO is the kitchen, its soul the signature open-air double bar, spilling out onto a spacious patio, perfect for parties and private events. The outdoor space continues into a sidewalk café where you can sip on cortaditos throughout the day and into the night with cocktails, aged rums and dinner al fresco. In true Cuban form, we celebrate “Mañanas in the Mojito Garden”on the weekends-(will be available once the weather permits it) a daytime fiesta featuring live musicians, half-price mojitos, Cuban street food and more.
