n June 2010, the restaurant relocated to three beautiful, bucolic acres overlooking Sheep Hill in Williamstown, MA. This move allows us to better put into practice our farm-to-table mission and our commitment to fostering closer relationships between eaters, growers and the environment. Together we can eat better, enjoy the views, share wholesome dishes and embrace a lifestyle that remains not only sustainable but also eminently enjoyable.

Interior and exterior renovations of the new Mezze Bistro property were in keeping with sustainable building practices. Low-VOC and no-VOC paints and adhesives were utilized, recycled denim- and khaki-filled acoustic sound panels were installed, existing fixtures were reinvented to match the new dcor and previous furnishings and building materials were donated to local non-profit organizations. Working with various experts in the field, two rain gardens were installed to aid in ground water recharge. Edible landscape designs are in the works and include a native stone pathway, a grape and hardy kiwi arbor, upper and lower kitchen gardens and an herb garden as part of Mezzes long-term vision of the property.

Back in 1996, Nancy Thomas (herself of Moroccan-Greek descent) opened the original Water Street, Williamstown location of Mezze Bistro to feature small plates showcasing her culinary heritage. In fact, the name itself, Mezze, translates from the Arabic to describe a tradition of sharing lots of small dish appetizers, in the manner of tapas.

By differentiation amid a sea of New England standard fare and a commitment to wholesome, fresh, sustainable, local ingredients as much as possible the bistro gathered a loyal group of well-fed fans and kept all 45 seats at a friendly capacity. So when a fire in the summer of 2001 fanned inspiration, Mezze made the move to a classically designed space down the street, with enough room to appease the backlog of reservations as well as an opportunity to expand the menu to full dinners. In time, the popularity of Mezze again swelled to a full seating chart, leading to the 2009 Mezze Restaurant Group purchase of the former Le Jardin property with its lush grounds and green policy potential. Which, after extensive renovations both in and outside following sustainable building practices, brings us to the current Mezze Bistro residence at 777 Cold Spring Road where we hope to serve you soon.

Based on her early and continuing success with the bistro, Nancy also created a full-service complementary company in 1999, under the moniker Mezze Catering, which continues to create events that tastefully celebrate the bounty of our region.
